Ident for Television

Understand the purpose of Idents

Above there are pictures of old and new BBC 1 idents, the one on the left is the older one, this has older animation and less vibrant colours, the importance of colour is that it can appeal to different target audiences such as children, a younger target audience is more likely to look at a colourful ident than a non-colourful one, the one on the right is BBC 1 newer ident, this ident has a new circle theme this is where an object or people start to circle around the BBC logo this puts emphasis on the logo and nothing else, the objects or people circling the logo are also often colourful this theme  has carried on to the most recent BBC 1 idents, the colours are vibrant and clearly show the logo with contrasting colours whereas the older ident is less clear as they both have black backgrounds.

Understanding the opportunities and limitations of on-screen graphic representation

This is BBC 1's ident its bright and colourful and was Filmed on public roads in London and a private car park at Earls Court. i think the ident is good because of the bright vibrent colours and the clearness of the logo of BBC 1

This is BBC 2's ident it is a little robot 2 which come out to turn the logo round as it is faceing the wrong way. i think that the ident could be improved because the logo is not a clear BBC logo, the big 2 is very creative but could be more colourful

In 2008 BBC had a new design for their ident, Rebranding was carried out by Red Bee Media, along with agencies MPG and Agency Republic with music and sound design by creative audio company Koink.i think the BBC three ident is good as it has vibrent colours and clearly displays the logo, it also shows good imagination and has a quite surreal theme.

This is channel 4's ident, its a big 4 but layed out so that at first it looks like nothing but when the camera pans round it becomes the channel 4 logo, i think that this is a very good idea as it shows the creativity and complexity that channel 4 can achieve.

This is E4's ident the use of animation not only makes the ident creative but colourful as well. A bad point about this ident is the displaying of the logo, this is because in some of the idents for E4 it is not always clear.

The ident starts with some people enjoying lunch shaded by large yellow and white umbrellas. We soon see they are surrounded by many tall buildings. As the buildings are revealed, the windows start to shimmer, then the windows start to open like shutters producing yellow reflections. The logo is revealed in a series of shutter type movements amongst the windows.

This is more 4's ident, the simplicity of this makes the logo stand out very well, the colours are bright on a black background, i think the ident could be improved by making it more creative.

This is Daves ident, it is quite surreal and displays the logo clearly dave uses no animation but is very imagantive and colourful.

This is film four's ident, the colours contrast so the red stands out from the black background displaying the logo clearly and throughout the whole ident,

This is channel Five's ident, it clearly presents the logo and has animation, the animation is set over a city back drop which make the ident look creative.

Sky 1's ident is an animation of a big one that smashes up into dimamond like peices, although the sky logo is not clearly shown throughout the ident the presence of the one is clear and shows what tyep of sky channel the viewer is watching.

Sky 3's ident is very Similar Sky 1 with a big Three insted of a 1, in Sky 3's ident the 3 slowy disintergrates into a cardboard box which eventualy falls over the ident again shows the 3 all the way through but not the sky logo.

Characters

Our characters will be King Kong and Godzilla, Godzilla is a 1998 American action science fiction film directed and co-written by Roland Emmerich and starring Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno, Maria Pitillo and Hank Azaria. It is loosely based on the Japanese Godzilla franchise and is a re-imagining of the 1954 Japanese film of the same name.

Design

Patrick Tatopoulos was contacted early on by Emmerich and asked to design the new Godzilla. According to Tatopoulos, the only specific instructions Emmerich gave him was that Godzilla should be able to run incredibly fast.Godzilla's traditional look was changed from an upward walking dinosaur to a hunched bent-over marine iguana. The reasons for changing Godzilla's look from a dinosaur to a marine iguana is still unknown. Godzilla's color scheme was designed to reflect and blend in with the urban environment.

We decided to use Godzilla and King Kong because we feel that it would appeal to a wide target audience. They would also work for our story as they would be fighting each other.

Target audience
Our target audience is 12-19 but can range up to 50. For our ident i think that the main gender would be male this is because our ident is aimed towards that target audience, I believe that our target audience would enjoy our ident as it is specifically tailored to appeal to them. The target audience we are appealing to interests involve a form of fighting or conflict, this will be incorporated into our ident.
Formats
The format of our animation is primarily a fighting scene, then the fighting will cease and the characters will hold up the Park Hall media logo. The resources we have available and will use is plasticine
Promotional and positive words
Our animation will appeal to its target audience and will achieve a high standard. It has a unique style and a good story line, its shows the media with big film characters which are recognisable and well know.
USP
The unique selling point of Park Hall Media Productions is that it appeals to a wide target audience it is also enjoyable
Animation techniques
For our animation we considered using stop start, this is because we feel it would have the best effect for our characters, it would also mean that we could exaggerate the characters and objects we use. Likewise it means that we can use stretch and squash, the purpose of this principle is to give a sense of weight and flexibility it also mean that when the characters fight we concentrate on detail of the face stretching as a result of a punch.
